Starting in August, you'll see lots going on as we begin renovations on our Deli. We expect construction to last from August 20th through September 4th. During this time, Deli Services will be halted (including sandwiches, sliced meats and cheeses, salad bar, and last but certainly not least, coffee services) and our Café will be closed. Limited prepared food offerings from our local vendors will be available. The Cheese and Wine Departments may be slightly affected but will remain open. We realize that many people depend on and look forward to visiting The Coop's Deli on a regular basis and we truly apologize for any inconvenience during the renovation.
We'll be keeping you updated on the progress of the renovation (and all the great new features that you'll have to look forward to) through in-store postings and website information. So please check back in, and also let us know if you have any questions. Below is some background information and a sneak peak sketch of our new Deli layout - complete with an expanded salad bar, bakery section and Grab•and•Go! options as well as
a separate cash register that will help reduce wait times when purchasing Deli items. We'll also be expanding our sandwich menu to include hot sandwiches like burritos, gourmet grilled cheeses, and much more! After the renovation we'll still offer coffee, tea and specialty drinks as well as sliced meats and cheeses, they'll just be in a slightly different arrangement then they are now.

Why we’re renovating
Outdated equipment
The equipment in the Deli is aging, and has been with the store since it opened in this location.
Cost to renovate was comparable to cost to replace
After exploring the cost of simply replacing aging structures, the Deli starting exploring opportunities for making improvements through renovation.
Recommitment to our Mission
This renovation has given us the perfect opportunity to clarify our department vision, standards and commitment to the Hunger Mountain Coop Mission. After renovation, 100% of the produce, beans, and grains offered in the Deli will be organic or locally sourced. 100% of our meat and dairy ingredients will be all natural (with many being organic or locally sourced as well).
Responding to Feedback
The Deli is acting on customer feedback asking for expanded offerings and more diversity on the menu. We can also improve our layout, increase customer service, and address ergonomic concerns expressed by our staff.
Planning for growth
The number of Coop shoppers has been steadily increasing for years, and the Deli wants to cater to their needs while improving the department’s performance.
We are committed to becoming a dining destination in Montpelier, selling food that nourishes all of our senses, for any meal or occasion.
